UP farmer’s killings: Supreme court cancels the bail of Ashis Mishra
Supreme court cancels the bail of Ashis Mishra , the son of union minister Ajay Mishra on Monday for Lakhimpur incident.
Ashis Mishra accused in the killing incident which was reported in UP, Lakhimpur last year. Among the eight people, four farmers were killed in Lakhimpur. A protest has been arisen during the visit of deputy chief minister Kehav Prasad Maurya. It turned violent. Allegation was about the victims were knocked down by the an SUV. The Minister’s son (Ashis Mishra ) was seated on that car.
The supreme court has directed minister’s son to surrender within one week. Here are the top quotes from judges in this regards:
- Victims have the right to be heard in every proceeding. We hold that the victims have been denied the chance of an effective hearing in the present case.
- The High Court has taken into account several irrelevant considerations and overlooked precedents.
- The denial of the victims to be heard and the tearing hurry shown by the High Court merits the setting aside of the bail order.
- FIR cannot be treated as an encyclopedia of events. Judicial precedents were ignored.
- (When asked to direct a different High Court judge to hear the case) It would not be proper to pass such an order. We are sure that the same judge would not want to hear the matter again.
The judgement has been pronounced on the basis of case-filing by the victims of the family members. They challenged the bail given to Ashish Mishra by the Allahabad high Court. In February, the Allahabad High Court had granted bail to Ashish, nearly four months after he was arrested.
The state government had also faced difficulties in he response to the report during one of the hearings. The families of the victims alleged that the high court verdict was “unsustainable in eyes of law as there has been no meaningful and effective assistance by the state to the court in the matter”

Adesh Gupta, the Delhi BJP head, said that the Mohammadpur village has been renamed ‘Madhavpuram’. The Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) approved the proposal for renaming the locality, he claimed, and the procedure was finished. Local BJP councillor Bhagat Singh Tokas signs posted identifying Mohammadpur village as Madhavpuram
In the Zonal Committee last year, a motion was made to rename Mohhamadpur. The resolution made by the corporation, according to local BJP councillor Bhagat Singh Tokas, with the sentiments of the residents of the village in mind. He further said that after the corporation passed the resolution, he got threats.
In the proposal, Tokas had said, “During the Mughal era, the name of every village was forcibly changed. Ward 66 S village Mohammadpur falls in the urban village category under the jurisdiction of South Delhi Municipal Corporation. Mohammadpur villagers’ demand to change the name of the village has been pending for a long time.”
“After the municipal corporation approved the proposal to change the name to Madhavpuram, the renaming process was completed today. From now on, this village will be called Madhavpuram instead of Mohammadpur. Residents of Delhi don’t want any symbol of slavery to be a part of the city after 75 years of Independence,” Gupta said on Twitter and posted photographs of the board.
The idea must be authorised by the state name authority as part of the naming process for highways and villages. “We have done it at our end, now the Delhi government should say whether it wants to change the name or not,” he said when asked if South MCD can change the name of a site because the final power to change names resides with the Delhi government.
